Has anyone here ever had a Moon Pie? I've heard about them being popular in the southern states but have never seen them in San Antonio until recently. They are a confectionary treat made of a layer of marshmallows, cookies, and an outer frosting.

I always imagined they were vanilla or banana flavored (due to their light coloring). I probably saw them in small towns throughout Texas. I'm not a big fan of chocolate.

So, excluding chocolate, which is the best flavor?

If you want to try one, go to any of the Cracker Barrel Restaraunts in SA...they sell them by the box...you can try them and decide for yourself which is YOUR preference!

Just had one last week. I was on business at a hotel in Tennessee.

They're too sweet for me, but you can find them around here pretty easily

They have a plethora of different flavors at Bass Pro Shops off IH10...not that I care for them, but I thought it was interesting that they had more then the usual flavor.

I saw them recently in the convenience store next to Rudy's BBQ on I-10.

They're baked in Chattanooga, Tennessee which may account for them being more of a southeastern treat than a southern treat.

I'm partial to the banana flavor. I don't eat them often, but sometimes when we are on a road trip and I see one at a convenience store, it sounds quite tempting.

Legend has it you're supposed to eat them with an RC cola.

That's my son's favorite, too. I favor the chocolate or vanilla moon pies about equally, since the flavor is pretty much interchangeable. I've always found it curious that chocolate moon pies taste nothing like chocolate!

Moon Pies are not good unless you wash it down with an RC cola. I think there's a song about it. I've only ever had one...and an RC with it. I was in TN. It's more like a heart attack in a wrapper.
