Hi! just checking to see if anyone here went to Jeff or worked at Jeff.

I was in the Class of 1961. Any others?

In 1939, Jeff was selected as the most astounding high school campus in America by Life Magazine. It went to our heads for years. We were still quoting it in the 60's. And we're still quoting it today. Many citizens were upset that they spent $3,000,000 on a campus in the middle of a depression. But it was good foresight for it developed that area of town. Right after that happened, Hollywood came to San Antonio and made two movies on the campus in 1940. "High School" and(?) "Return to High School".

I told on myself. Thank you AFWife. I've enjoyed my years, wouldn't trade them for anyone else's. After you reach a certain age you start to like yourself. Here is a synopsis of "High School" starring Jane Withers. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0032595/

I looked for the sequel but couldn't find it. Here is a filmography of Jane Withers and it list "High School" but doesn't show the sequel and both movies were made at the same time and both starred Jane Withers. Maybe it was destroyed over the years. http://www.fandango.com/janewithers/filmography/p77080

From IMDb:

"In actuality, the school interiors and neighborhood scenes were filmed in the Fox back lot. The "stars" never stepped foot in SA during the filming. In 1992, I spoke with Jane Withers, and she verified the information. The scene with the Lassos is obviously a rear screen projection.

Jefferson High School itself has incorrect information in its files, as it states a sequel called "Texas Girl" was released a year later. In fact, both are the SAME film, released under different names, in various areas of the country. I researched this information in the Fox Film Archives."

I know Mr. Gregory. He was a vice principle. I can't go anywhere with him that people will run up to him smiling and say "Mr. Gregory....wonderful to see you." He is always happy to see them and smiles and asks about thier life. Afterwards when I ask who that was, he always says..don't know...it's a student. He doesn't remember names...all the time...but he tells some wonderful stories.

I was Class of 93. By the time we got back to San Antonio, the houses in the area had increased so much in value that I could bring myself to pay as much as they were asking. Absolutely beautiful school and wonderful teachers. Absolutely no doubt in my mind that many children who may not have had much to inspire them educationally were inspired simply by the surroundings of the high school. There were the dead-enders to be sure, but most people realized how special a place it was.

What a disappointment. Are they saying that both movies were not filmed inside the school? We were told that they were. I was in the class of 1976
