It's that time of year! I have not gone fishing since we moved back, and I am ready to get my poles in the water (so are my girls). Is there a place near SA that I can go for the bass run, or am I going to have to make my trip to Colorado Bend SP? When I lived in Leander, I was only about 45 minutes away from Bend, now it's going to be hours.

Cheermom, I am from SA and live in Leander now and you are going to have to drive back really to get your fix. Sorry to tell ya that! Sincce most of SAs water is underground it does not support fishing as well as this area where ya have a fishing hole every mile or so it seems to me! You might look and see if there is something around Caynon Lake though above the dam...maybe something there.

The run is on at Canyon Lake which is just north of SA. Do you have a boat? If not you may have trouble reaching them on Canyon unless you rent a boat or hire a guide.

Try the Texas Fishing Forum for details and advice. There is a thread specifically about catching whites at Canyon in the Whites-Stripers-Hybrids section -

If you need a guide who specializes in whites and catfish in the SA area try Cliff Hill. Everyone at the Texas Fishing Forum will highly recommed him and you can also see all the pictures of what his clients catch at his website - Page 1.

Good luck,
Chris

Unfortunately, I do not have a boat. That is going to be my next big purchase....someday. I am actually a member of that forum, I just have not posted in a while, since my move. I did a search there, but just checking out the action at the Bend. My friends do have kayaks, I wonder if that would work out?

I'm not sure how close you would be able to launch a kayak to where the whites are actually biting in Canyon. I bet you could get a good answer over at TFF. If you do go kayak fishing on Canyon, if possible I would recommed going on a weekday and not a weekend. The weekends can get pretty busy with boat and personal water craft and I would feel kind of unsafe out on a kayak. However for most of the year on non-holiday weekdays the lake is pretty quiet.

ok, bumping an older thread - we went to Calveras today, and it was PACKED. Ridiculous kinda packed. There was NO room to fish at all!!! Easter weekend, I understand. But the entire park was a huge party. Braunig was no different.

My friend's dad suggested we hit the San Antonio River, right below Braunig on 37. I'd never been there before! It was a very nice area, with the exception of the highway traffic over us. But, we caught ONE catfish!

Anyone fished there before?
