Seems I once took Nacogdoches south into downtown and went by one that looked amateur cook friendly. But I have not been able to find it since.

Ace Mart Restaurant Supply.I think there was one south of downtown.

Every time I go it is a treat.

They are on the utilitarian end-no All Clad or display knives, but for basic and hard to find sizes of cookware, it is worth a visit.

Do not be intimidated by everything, the staff is conversant from a five star chef to a novice shopper.

I go to the Austin Highway location- just west of !-35.

Yup - that's where you go if you want the "real stuff" - NOT one of those foo-foo "gourmet cook" stores!

Is it open to general public or you need to be a restaurant owner?

Acemart has a store at Ingram Rd and NW Loop 410. It's open to the public and it's right across the parking lot from Los Ballito's. I've shopped there before. Great place with great employees.

Ace Mart is open to the general public. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I was somewhat intimidated and overwhelmed the first time I went in-no need to be.
