Does anyone here ever drive down to Laredo/Nuevo Laredo to get prescriptions, dental and medical care in Mexico?

Daylight is fine during peak shopping hours. Otherwise, no.

Thanks. Looks like a round trip to El Paso then might be the better deal.

Traveling to a safe part of Mexico for Rx and dental work *IS* worth it. Even some insurance plans are now covering this option for their customers. I simply looked at a map to find the closest point of entry from SA, hence my question about Nuevo Laredo. However, it's almost as cheap (and apparently safer) to just fly to El Paso and go to Cuidad Juarez. Good thing about that plan is I can get referrals to dentists that friends actually use there.

Juarez by the bridge is fine, same goes for Matamoros (next to Brownsville, TX). The safest and easiest place though is Nuevo Progeso, close to Weslaco, TX. If all you want is to shop and go dental/medical stuff, it´s all there in a safe, compact, easy to navigate town. From October to May or so you´ll be in the company of plenty of 70 year olds from Minny-Soda and Canada.
