My family may consider a permanent move to San Antonio (discussed this yesterday).

For safety, they wish to live in Gated Community, with a real-life guard.

When I Google, "San Antonio Gated Community", I get an interactive map with list on the left.

Few issues
1. The address links to home sales, no information on if they have a gate, what type of gate, i.e. a live guard. For example, Inverness links to https://www.kuperrealty.com/eng/sale...antonio-tx-usa

2. Places like Canyon Springs and Alamo Ranch Community have no website.

Only one place, Summerglen has a website that gives contact info on the Gatehouse.

There must be more gated communities in San Antonio.

What is the best way to search and get honest reviews?

San Antonio has numerous gated communities, but with a staffed guard house entry, not that many, I would say. The Dominion, Elm Creek, and Oakwell Farms are among the gated communities with staffed entry, just off the top of my head.

One way to check this out is to try to pull up Google Street Views of the prospective communities. If there are no street views, then it is almost certainly a gated community. The street views usually end at the entrance, in those cases. You can view the entrance, and probably determine if there is a guard house, or just an unstaffed gate requiring a passcode on the keypad.

Entry to Oakwell Farms is a mix of a live guard and gate codes depending where you go in I think....

No, there is a live guard and that's the only way in unless you have a clicker. The live guard won't let you in unless your name is on the list and you show your ID. Somebody who lives there has to put you on the list. If you aren't on the list they won't let you in.

They can either put you on the list for one visit or they can put you on a permanent list

The biggest problem is the school it feeds into, but pretty much all of the people who live there send their kids to Alamo Heights or a private school anyways

We moved to SA a couple of years ago (we need to be here for my husband's job for a couple more years) and I was worried about where we would live because I wanted our family to be safe. We checked out gated and non gated and ended up in a non gated area and it's been fine. I signed up for Next Door and there are people who live in gated communities that have complaints too of unknown people getting in or doing something destructive. We have surveillance cameras and I'm good with that. We chose the NE section of SA. It's not our house back on the east coast ( I occasionally have to go back there for work), but it's good!

Schools are good here.

Good luck.
