However, somehow, we made it out. I wound up at San Antonio College, so did my sister. I continued on to Texas A&M. I wound up working for major brokerage firms, and now have my own business. My thought is if we had not had that assistance to survive, to somehow want to get out and find a better life, could we have done it without that bare minimum assistance?
My heartfelt congratulations to you........I would appreciate you expanding on how you broke the cycle when others do not or cannot.

My family would have stayed homeless if it weren't for government assistance. I'm not sure if I would have been able to go to college without financial aid; I had a sibling to support leaving no extra money for anything else. In my situation, I found it easy to break the cycle. Unfortunately, some of my other families that are close to my age chose to make poor life decisions. The most important thing I did was to not have children out of wedlock, especially when I wasn't making much money. The second most important thing I did was to complete a college education.

Congratulations to you.

I was also raised in low income housing and welfare and I was determined not to repeat that cycle in my own life. I wanted more and when I would see my friends with their family where money wasn't an issue and the biggest thing for me two parents it was everything I wanted some day. Now I can't say the same for my other siblings and their kids. They seem very happy to live a life with no money and expect to have things given to them without working hard. I think it all starts when you are young and wanting to do your best and that starts in school with getting good grades so you have opportunities. You also have to have parents that support you to want more. I didn't have parents that did that but I had my friends parents which were always around. I don't know why some people want more and why others are just happy with living a life of struggle and waiting for the next handout.

I can say that I have made a great life for myself out of the cycle. I have a great job, learned to safe money and own my own car and home. I also have an awesome husband that loves that I am ambitious and always working towards new goals. I have family who thinks I am snobby just because I wanted more. But I don't care what they all think. I did what was best for me and getting out of that environment and having a happy successful life was all I ever wanted.

I think that is one reason some find it difficult. It's not that they don't want it, those around them don't want them to have it.

You hit the nail on the head. Losers never like people who make the effort to get ahead and who make them look bad in the process and this includes family. I've run into this very thing in my life and every time it was a family member who was doing it.

Silly Question, but where are the victoria courts?
