We were sitting in a bit of a line at Bill Millers. (don't flame ) Anyways, we got to the part where you can see the back door. Some guy walks out of the back door, walks towards my truck, around the back and attempts to open my passenger side. My wife starts going nuts and I yell out. "Get the (truck) away!!!" Bewildered he said, "sorry, wrong truck". But gave me a look like he couldn't believe I said that. I felt a bit bad but of course, put yourself in my shoes. Freaked the crap out of my wife and I just wanted to get out and pound on the guy until I found out who he was. (older gentleman) Turns out his truck was 2 in front of us. I normally don't curse but I wanted to express how upset I was and yet still not sound contrived.

The situation sucks, but these days you can't be too careful. And he's lucky you only yelled at him, and didn't exercise your right to protect your wife and property...

Get out and pound the guy? Sounds like there are some anger management issues.

Well, having walked up to the wrong car and even tried to insert my key once or twice, I can understand the guy. I understand your fear someone was trying to steal your car, but it does sound just a wee bit of an over reaction.

Opinion on what? Inappropriateness? Yep, crude and inappropriate, IMO. As far as protecting one's property, from an old guy who made a mistake? You actually came across as the aggressor from the sound of it and you might be the one who gets shot if you react on a hair trigger like that. Chill out!

He was in an Expedition, I drive a Denali. I guess similar but not really. Although I mentioned about pounding the guy, I don't think I would have done it unless pushed to it.

Awwww....poor "old guy." But I think with so much stress in the world these days...(non-stop Chicken Little news media screaming that "The sky is falling, the sky is falling!) it is likely that a lot of people are jumpy and might have reacted as you did.

I have, on more than one occasion, gone to the wrong car that looked exactly like mine, and tried to open the driver's side door, before realizing it wasn't my car. And...true story!...one time my husband used his key to open a car door, got in, drove through the parking lot, before realizing that it was the wrong car! Honestly. It was a Lexus, and later he found that every tenth Lexus of his model had the same key. Things are probably different now, but that's the way it was, back in the day...

I feel for the guy. My mom does that kind of thing a LOT. She's a bit scatterbrained. It's not her age, it's just her (and I inherited it!). She has a big red Dodge pickup and mistakes pretty much any other big red truck (regardless of make) for hers if she's been inside somewhere and not sure where she parked.

I'd probably do it too but my vehicles never look anything like anything else in the parking lot. There's always some obvious feature (dents, fading paint) that make mine obvious.

Thank you for your replies and yes, I did feel bad afterwards and that's why I guess I am posting to ask for your opinion.
