San antonio has the distinction in the US for having more battles or skirmishes fought here than any other location in the US. We have had 7 battles (1 & 2 and 8 & 9 could each be considered one or two) fought here plus many Indian fights to boot.

1. & 2. Battle of Medina (San Antonio fought and won and then the Spanish Army came back and defeated then insurgents, 1813 south of the Medina River
3. Grass Fight (union stock yards) October,1835
4. Battle of Conception November, 1835
5. Battle of Bexar (downtown) Dec.,1835
6. The fall of the Alamo, Feb-March 6, 1836
7. The Council House fight of 1840 (Comanche Indians and Texans)
8. & 9. San Antonio was seized twice by the Mexican Army in 1842

Also during 1750's to the 1820's, Comanche Indians attacked San Antonio several times.

The Alamo chapel was suppose to have two bell towers built, but work was stopped by Indian attacks.

rdz712: Try the Alamo Library on the grounds of the Alamo, also Institute of Texan Cultures in the HemisFair grounds.
