It snowed pretty heavy in Kerrville area last year, remember? They even told people to stay off I10. Lots of people got stuck on the side of the highway. I got my jeep and tow hook ready and will be popping people out for $50/hour. LOL.

Such a powerful heat exchange is going to cause some interesting weather in the coming days.

I was just playing with google maps a little.... Do you realize that the mileage from Amarillo to the middle of South Dakota on I-90 is the same as the mileage from Amarillo to Laredo?

I imagine you can find those temperature swings in many places separated by 660 miles.

As the crow flies the tip top right corner of the Texas Panhandle is closer to Chicago than Brownsville and El Paso is closer to San Diego than Houston.

You can check as the crow flies distances here:

Advanced Google Maps Distance Calculator

I know bunch of useless facts....

actually, I think that's pretty interesting. I knew the state was freaking huge (but not even close to the biggest), but when you point out distances to places that don't even seem close (South Dakota), it puts it in a better perspective.

and how strange is it to wake up with the a/c running and turn on the tv to see a temperature of 65 and winter weather warnings at the same time. Should be an interesting day especially since the same tv screen had San Angelo at 32 and receiving freezing rain. I made that drive quite a few times while at Goodfellow, so I know the two SA's are pretty close.

I think is funny that people in San Antonio think the weather changes drastically.
In the middle of country, when a cold front goes by, that means you'll see record high temperatures followed by freezing rain or snow and strong winds.

It's normal to see the temperature go from 65-70F to 20F in 24 hours when a cold front goes by.

but here that can happen in under 24 seconds and usually instantly. I remember a few Saturday's ago when I was washing my truck, the temperature dropped at least 20 degrees instantly. I was hot and sweaty and then suddenly very cold and dry, then I caught this nasty cold..

and where's the local weather guru's? They're hyping this up pretty big, but most people don't seem to be freaking out. I already left a standing reservation for taking tomorrow off if I walk out and feel any ice on the ground.
