Mine too, and I am in such a fix! The realtor wants me to sod the backyard to make it more appealing. But I cannot in good conscious spend money on grass that will die becuase I can't stand the thought of watering grass during a drought. At least not to the extent necessary to establish new growth!
I don't want to zeriscape the whole yard because that is too much of a personal choice and not something I want to spend money on just to sell the house.
I long for the spring that my drought-stricken back yard was a beautiful oasis of wildflowers (weeds by some standards)...at least it was pretty and colorful!

Guess all I can hope for is someone with a good imagination or a don't care attitude about the back yard!!

We *MAY* get some rain next week, and beneficial ones at that. Otherwise, the long-term pattern is looking rather dismal and the record dry spell continues.

As far as where this ranks in history... it's in the top 2. This is worse than the 1950's drought, we have to date back to the 1910s for it to be this dry.

Anthony - thanks for posting that. It makes it easier for me to know, that no, I'm not entirely insane because, yes, it is that bad! At this point I just want to cry every time I look out the window. I'm in a rural area - people (us included as we have livestock) are truly, truly hurting. Livelihoods are wreaked.

Would you have a link to where I could get that historical perspective... that way, I can print it out and when the next "not from this area" person says to me in that annoying tone, "Oh, it can't be THAT bad, it's not been on MY news"... I can stuff it down his or her throat.
