We're visiting S.A. on Friday for the first time, and want to see live Tejano music somewhere that night. Does anyone have any recommendations for a club or bar near the Riverwalk/Alamo area?

Thanks!

I'm not sure about the Riverwalk area but you might want to consider going to Poteet, TX. A lot of bands will be performing that weekend. I know I'll be there.

I am coming down to San Antonio Texas on August 23,2012 from Kuwait and would really love to hear some tejano music. Its been like forever since I heard some good music please remember I am a 56 yr old and would like some nice old fashion tejano music. I don't want to go to a club and feel like I am chaperoning a bunch of kids.

FWIW, Grahams is mostly an older crowd. The Tejano area is in the back. Go with an open mind, and you'll have fun. The sound is great and there's a big dance floor.

@ Grahams:Aug 24th is Jimmy Gonzalez.

@ R&J Music Pavilion: Aug 24th is Conjunto Summer Jam 2012 featuring Los Hermanos Cortez, Jaime y los Chamacos, Grupo Maldad (los aguilares) La Tropa F, and Los Gilbertos.

The tejano scene is sort of underground, due to not being that popular with the kids in general, and also due to the bands being sort of local and low key and not having the money for big promoters and websites. You'll quickly find that tejano bands don't have the best websites. But the info is there if you look. Like your faves on facebook and you'll get more real time information. Or like the venues on facebook. Or both. It's worth doing your homework in my opinion because I love the music. You'll just be missing the Tejano Music Awards and the after party, which is on Aug 17th.

One of the (uglier) sites that has updated info is tejanotimes.net. If you scroll past the giant pictures, there are home made "fliers" for events. It will give you a feel for which clubs/venues normally have tejano artists, and you can go from there.

But again, for real time info, head to facebook. Add the groups and venues and you'll know where the party's at.
