Where can I buy coconut oil? I am making popcorn and I heard coconut oil is the best oil you can use in terms of taste.

I'm not looking for the 50 lb drum that Rico sells.

HEB plus has it in a jar...it is about 1/3 the size of a peanutbutter jar. It is white, in the solid form...melts quickly like crisco does.

It IS better with coconut oil. Get extra virgin coconut oil. It actually may be liquid in your pantry (I think it melts at 70 degrees or something), and that's ok. I find it easier to measure when it is soft. But you can also store it in the fridge. Go to the bulk aisle at HEB Plus or, of course, Whole Foods or Central Mkt.

Coconut oil is wonderful. It's not sweet, though...but you can detect just a hint of coconut. It is also a very healthy "oil". It is kinda crazy that it will turn completely clear and liquid in the jar if the temp gets over 75 degrees (or close). At night it would get cooler in the kitchen and in the morning it would be solid white again! It does not need refrigeration, but that won't hurt it . It's just harder to scoop out when it's cold. Some people take a spoon of it a day for health reasons. It helps your digestion. I'm not one of those people, however!

I've seen it at all three places named above. Be prepared. It's pricey. Whole Foods and Central Market carry several brands and the super duper extra virgin is almost $20 a jar! We cook with it, so we buy the less expensive brand at HEB.

doesn't it make the popcorn taste or smell like coconuts? That is definitely on the low end of what I like to smell and/or taste.

No. It has a very mild taste...almost tasteless.
