New to town, and I need someone with gifted hands that can cut women's hair -- but doesn't charge New York prices. Any suggestions? Preferably someone in the I-10 / 1604 area.

TIA

I guess this is a bit far from 1604, but Fantastic Sams on the corner of Huebner and NW Military Drive does not charge high prices for nice haircuts for men, women, and children. I've been going there several years and am happy with the place. Ask for Cathy.

Richard at Textures off 410 and San Pedro near N. Star Mall. Pricy but worth it.

Lots of great recommendations about Jeff at the Regis in Ingram Park Mall. Which reminds me...I have got to get an appointment scheduled!

I love Jennifer at Super Cuts at De Zavala/10. She's been doing my hair for the past year and a half. It's not going to be a $100 hair cut, but if you tell her what you want she'll give you some suggestions and then you'll never want to go anywhere else.

And Huebner and NW Military isn't far from 1604/10! Ingram is a heck of a lot farther!

They are next to the abandoned, deserted former HEB. I'm sort of worried that no HEB there anymore is going to be a problem for Fantastic Sams - I really like the prices and quality and I don't think I would know what to do if the lack of HEB does become a problem for business at Fantastic Sams ----

I will again second the rec for Jeff at Regis. He cut my hair in March and did a fantastic job. Back in July I was desperate for a cut/trim but didn't have time to drive all the way out to Ingram, and I live near Pearl Brewery so I took a chance on the Aveda salon school there. WORST MISTAKE EVER. Jeff's cut was so excellent it stood up beautifully for months, but the student cut was so bad I could feel the rough edges and untouched split ends even before I walked out the door. Don't let the notion that "master teachers" are "supervising" your cut fool you... they are not much more than a rubber stamp. Aveda student cuts are a waste of money and waste of time. I'll be making a repeat appointment at Regis next week.

I will be seeing Jeff on Saturday morning. Can't wait!! He's slowly been working on me (he's very low pressure and will only go as far as what his customers are comfortable with) for a completely and totally new cut and style and I think I might finally go for it this visit.
