We have lived in our house for 15months now ... If you were to walk out of my back door and walk up the street less than 1/4 mile you would run smack into Camp Stanley's fence ...

Every now and then, I would say it's happened about 5-6 times since we have lived here, I will hear loud, deep BOOMS ... it sounds like cannons being shot ... This doesn't happen all night long, but will go on for about an hour and it's not a constant BOOM --- it's usually 1 boom, then maybe another right away...then maybe another 15 mins later another boom ... When it does happen it's always late at night, after midnight, usually around 1am or 130am ...

I have no idea about the military so I don't know what this could be ... are they playing "war games" over there??? or is this some sort of test they run???

It's nothing that keeps us up at night but I am really curious about what it is ...

Camp Stanley is a weapons/munitions supply, maintenance, test and storage facility. Adjacent to it is Camp Bullis, which has firing ranges, maneuver areas and field training facilities. I have been all over the latter, but not the former as access is more restricted.

What you are hearing could be operations associated with any of those activities, which can occur day or night, or even something else altogether that is not associated with either base. With all the development going on along IH-10 West, it could be related to that...

As the saying goes: The Army does more before 9AM...

I am in the Army........

Sir, Camp Stanley is a "Ammo Dump" or Ammo Storage. You will hear booms every now and then, probably under ground explosion to get rid of ammo or maybe there is a EOD unit training in demolitions.

Yeah, but "always late at night, after midnight, usually around 1am or 130am?" (that's 0100-0130 to you, soldier! )

There may be teams that work at night, but if there was destruction of munitions going on, I would honestly expect it to occur during daylight hours.

Oh, and Steel, I was expecting this video...

Cheers! M2

I hear they're working on a top secret weapon that both causes hillsides to collapse and garage door openers to stop working.
