In my opinion the military aircraft noise is what you need to be more aware of when choosing a place to stay. They're tonnes louder than the commercial traffic which usually takes off in a somewhat eastward direction.

Most of KSAT's traffic arrives and departs from runway 12R, as mentioned before. Here is the ILS for 12R, which is what aircraft will use in the weather. If it's clear they'll just fly a visual approach but the altitudes and ground tracks will be pretty much the same. I'm sure this approach plate will clear up pretty much everything for you. Enjoy!

BTW, some of you may biitch about military aircraft flying over your house, but I welcome it. It beats having Russian or Chinese military aircraft flying over my house.

I think the commercial pilots tend to be pretty good at avoiding houses and residential areas. For the most part they seem to track over Salado Creek. Pretty much right over it on the rare time that you actually notice anything.

.
*I* appreciate the link, but you realize this is of no help to someone moving to town looking to buy a house.

yeah that PDF is complicated.

i live near six flags (IH10/1604) and the normal SAT flight path is straight down 10 next to my house.
last night with the storms i saw a pattern i never saw before. they were coming northward from downtown, just to the west of 10 straight at my house, then right at 1604 they did a 180 to track back down 10 to SAT. is was neat, i just love planes period. and yeah...dont complain about the C5s and F16s, its the sound of freedom.

Hey, did anyone notice that the airport has a new website?? Haven't had a chance to look through it yet, but the front page already looks a lot nicer and much more well-organized. And it's about time! The old site was really lousy.

Just to clarify (well, for me!), will the airport expansion include modification or constructions of any runways? Or will they use what exists?

And yes, I do like the new airport website. The old one was too cumbersome!

The new airport website has absolutely nothing about noise abatement. That's a shame, because it used to have loads of information, including maps and animations.

Work begins this week on a 1000-foot extension to the Northern end of Runway 3-21 (the one that is roughly parallel to Wetmore Rd.).

The long range master plan calls for additional land acquisition and the addition of a third 12-30 runway to the North, in addition to an extension of the existing Runway 12L-30R (the shorter runway used for general aviation), but there is no timetable for this to happen.
