I am just concerned as to what my family and I can do really. I am more comfortable with the gay community...but as long as it is an accepting community I will be fine. I have two boys ages 11 and 15months so are there any suggestions as to what we can do as a family that doesn't involve Sea World or the River Walk...I already know about those attractions.

You and your family can do whatever you and they want to do. I don't think anyone in San Antonio cares whether you are a lesbian or not, honestly. Not trying to sound mean at all.....it really is a "live and let live" kind of place. If you are truly looking for activities, search the forum or start a new thread....I firmly believe that your sexuality makes no difference here in choosing activities.

That is good to hear. Where I live it does make a difference and there are some things that you just know that you cannot do with the family. I just want to be able to enjoy the city. Thank you for your help.

Sorry to go off topic earlier. Anyway, I think you will fit in just fine here in sa. I see gay and lesbian couples all the time, at restuaraunts, theaters and various events.

It has to do with the fact that GLBT folk are not the "standard" sexual orientation. I'm gay and have had little to no interaction with transexuals but do I think there are similarities between us? Definitely. We face a common plight in that our sexual orientation can sometimes cause similar problems or issues such as "coming out", potential rejection from families, discrimination at work or in the community, etc. Are there differences among GLBT folk, of course.

Are you a pessimistic type person that sees more of the bad in people rather than the good? That's the kinda vibe I get from your posts.

For being a terribly Catholic city, San Antonio is quite accepting of GLBT lifestyles... It surprised me when I first moved here, but it's nice to see such a live and let live attitude, especially when adpoted/surrogated/natural born children of couples are involved. Socially, the 'scene' for GLBT is pretty lacking, which is why I don't socialize within that circle. It's just depressing to me, considering how incredible it could be if people didn't just settle for what's always been there.

SA does have a strong HRC organization, as well as great inner circle groups of very influential folks. These are the people who'd rather not spend a weekend at a smoky bar, but throw a catered dinner party or travel with a small group somewhere interesting.

In any event, welcome to San Antonio!

If you become affliated with the major universities - Med school, UTSA, Trinity, etc. - they have organizations.
