The best evidence is in the public record. If it is filed, then that's proof he did it. There'd be little point to getting as certified copy for your own file. I rarely do, just make a photo copy of a certified copy from my clients copy.

That what I was hoping to get from the attorney. Lack of it made me suspicious that he didn't file it yet

I don't know what your case is involving but I wonder why you can't just get another lawyer if you lack confidence in the one you have. Is it becuase you already paid him? Whatever portion of the retainer has not been used, you should be able to get back right? There are a plethora of attorneys out there . Why stick with one you are so unhappy with?

I am trying to get some money back from a Contractor who screwed up house remodeling. By now, I am not sure what is worse: to get involved with contractor or a lawyer.
