I have been reading the forums and checking out www.city-data.com. I have read several positive and negative comments about communities that surround SB. The job that I'm interested in is located in SB and from what I've read, the traffic is horrible anywhere around the SB area. Can anyone provide me with some unbiased suggestions? I am concerned about the air quality, particulate matter and high crime areas. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The air in the IE on the south side of the mountains is polluted, especially in the microparticulate category. In fact, this is the microparticulate pollution capital of the US.

Where in SB will you be working? There are places around SB, and even in SB, that are nice. (Limited in SB but there.) Give us some idea of what part of town you'll be working in, and we can tell you where you should live. Also, it would help to know your approximate age and interests. Are you looking for a community with some night life, or is family friendly good for you?

I'm in my 40's and my hubby is in his 50's and the children are grown and out of the house. The job is located near 295 E. Caroline Street in SB, CA. We moved from NE to San Jose 7 months ago for a job and we love the weather here in CA. However, the job has not worked out thus the job offer in SB. I don't want to deal with high humidity coupled with high temperatures....I had too much of that in Omaha, NE. I've been reading replies and based on what I have read I'm second guessing whether I should pursue this job offer. My husband and I haven't had an opportunity to capture some sightseeing, experiencing new food and shopping but would like to do so very soon. I would greatly appreciate some honest and forthright information. I will be flying in to SB next week for an additional interview and will not have time to drive around (not saying that I want to right now). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That address is very very close to Loma Linda. If you found a place to live in LL - you wouldn't even have to get on the freeway to go to work.

There are also several newer housing developments less than 5 minutes away, just south and west of that address - then you would be in Colton (Look for "Rich Dauer Pine Park")

Air quality in the whole San Bernardino Valley is another thing all together. The hotter it gets in the summer, the smoggier the air. Winters though - the blue sky and snow-capped mountains to the north are something to write home about!

Loma Linda would be a good choice for you if you choose to take the job.

You've asked for honest opinions, so I will give you one. The entire Inland Empire is one of the worst parts of the country in my opinion. I was born and raised in San Bernardino, and I enjoyed it when it was all I knew. However, since graduating high school, I have lived all around the country. I can be happy pretty much anywhere, and if I absolutely had to live in the I.E. I would make it work, but I would only live there as a last resort. I recommend you spend some time looking around before making any decisions. Don't try to talk yourself into it. Go with an open mind, look around. I think you'll find the place is a dump ... even in the "nice" areas.

Like any city around here, there are good parts and bad parts.
