It's getting out of hand.

I live in North San Bernardino.

Just now, I heard gunshots and screeching tires -- at around 4:30 AM.

This happens very frequently.

I always hear gunshots at the middle of night. And I'm not alone.

At work I asked two co-workers who also live in SB if they hear gunshots at night too. Both of them said yes.

I moved to SB in 2011.

Since then, my cars have been broken into twice, three neighbors' cars also broken into, one of my cars stolen at the Walgreen's on 40th and Sierra, and my father was sucker punched in an attempted mugging at the Bank of America by Cardenas.

What's wrong with this place? Any advice?

I was born in San Bernardino and live here in downtown in the Projects. I've experienced all of the things you said. It's either deal with it or get out. I mean, there isn't much you can do. You can call the cops if you wish but they won't help you. I mean they might help you but they were no help to us when we were robbed. We just had to clean up and move on. There's just a lot of gangs and crimes here. That's just how it is.

Our area has improved a bit through time. Nobody breaks our car doors anymore. San Bernardino shows up on the news a lot due to crimes that happen frequently in the area. It's just something we deal with.

I find that attitude distressing. No one should have to live like that. Unless absolutely destitute, why would anyone settle for it? That's not living. That's existing, barely.

Waterman/Sierra Way Area north of 40th is not nice. Sister's apartment was broken into, and drugs were plentiful.

I went to Riverside once and I know it's nearby. Is Riverside a really bad area ? I just moved here 4 months ago and I live near Tustin/Irvine. I went out to Riverside once and noticed it looked a little rough, but I didn't know how unsafe it is. I didn't think much of it, I was there around 9pm by myself as well.

Riverside is far better then San Berdoo, parts of SB are on par with the bad parts of L.A.

Another thing to consider is San Bernardino is still going through bankruptcy so that probably adds to the problems.

Even the City Attorney awhile back warned people to lock their doors and load their guns.
City Attorney Tells San Bernardino Residents To ‘Lock Their Doors,’ ‘Load Their Guns’ Because Of Police Downsizing « CBS Los Angeles

This should be a real eye opener and this alone would be cause for concern for surrounding areas also.

I lived in Riverside for many years and I was quite happy there (except for the smog!!). We lived in the Magnolia area off Central Ave. and it was at that time a very nice, quiet neighborhood.

Our kids lived in the Tustin area for years and it always seemed so jam-packed...no breathing room there.

Magnolia Center is still a very nice neighborhood.

Um......Riverside is a city of 300,000 people, thus it is really hard to generalize it as "rough". Go take a drive down Alessandro or Victoria and report back. Heck, I'd even have a hard time with somebody generalizing most of Magnolia as "rough".
