Thinking of relocating from Las Vegas to La Quinta (possibly Indio or Palm Desert since still shopping for a home). This may sound odd -- but are there no shopping malls with Covered Parking in this area? We had covered parking with the Fashion Show Mall so got used to being able to go somewhere even at 120 degrees but cannot find anything comparable here? Interested for both regular shopping (Mall), movies and even groceries if available... Thanks for any help!

Yes, the Westfield Palm Desert mall, and The Gardens on El Paseo have both covered and open air parking. During summer the covered parking spots are pretty hard to get, and if you are lucky to get one, it will generally be WAY the heck out there!

There isn't really any shopping in Indio - the mall is used primarily as a "swap meet" type place, and there isn't a mall in La Quinta. The mall in Palm Springs hasn't been a mall for years, and the city recently took a vote on Measure J, which was approved, to tax the residents so the city could purchase the mall from Wessman, a developer who owns it but did nothing with it for several years, and demolish it.

Thanks so much for the info. I'm shocked that there is not a large underground parking setup, but I forget the area really does not try to be year-round point for tourists the way Las Vegas does. Guess it's too easy to drive to the coast lol.

Does the City have something in mind for it?

People are kicking around a lot of different ideas. Some want a new retail district, some want a large city park, others want condos. Nobody really knows what will be built on the land once the mall is demolished.

We don't need covered parking, that's what those silly pop-out window shades are for.

I just keep towels in my car because I have leather seats. During summer I just cover my seat with a towel so I can get in and not have my legs melt onto the seat.
