I am looking to relocate from Texas to California within the next 6 months. I have never been to California but would like to escape this overly conservative state. I will be looking to purchase a home or condo/town home around $125,000 if possible. I have looked into the Anaheim or Ontario areas and they seem desirable. I however have been unable to find much information about Crime in the neighborhoods. Any advice on neighborhoods to avoid or just what you think of the area would be greatly appreciated. Oh I am in my early 20's and would also enjoy a place with a good music scene.

Here are a couple recent threads on Ontario. I worked there for 5 years and would not recommend living in Ontario proper but adjacent Rancho Cucamonga. For $125k you may be able to get a 1BR condo but be sure to factor in the HOA fees which can run over $200 per month. I would recommend renting for the first year if you've never been to this area. FYI, the inland empire tends to vote conservative but it's not as socially conservative as TX.

Murrieta and Temecula are the lowest crime cities (top 10) in the U.S. according to Forbes. I am an appraiser and live in Murrieta. Population 100,000 but has a small town feel. The condos here sell for around $100,000 with HOA fees of around $80.
