What is diverse in your opinion?
Are you looking at a ratio of births/deaths, or if there is an influx? The reason for wanting this info is also a good idea to include... Thnx |

I would like to say as a college town it has some diversity, and having worked at the university I've seen greater support for that assumption, but the college population is transient. I have not seen anyone feel out of place on Market nights, and that includes many persons of many skin colors. I would still say it is a small town, and not likely to turn into a medium sized city. Were you seeking to visit or move there?

Redlands is great! I'd forgotten about Market Night. The Redlands Bowl, U of Redlands and State Street are all nice, relatively safe and diverse areas and experiences. Probably the most "All-American" city in So.Cal. .

I wouldn't call it a small town by any measure, but it has done a decent job of avoiding that medium-sized-city feel.
Things like the Redlands Classic, Market Night, downtown, tiny Mall, and the relatively few Chinese food restuarants make it feel smaller than it really is. Most of the folks I know go to Hospitality Lane for shopping/dining so there's not as much pressure to get those amenities in-town (though they seem to be coming). I think it's growing. One cannot drive anywhere on the west side of redlands without seeing construction of some sort, though much of it is commercial. In regards to diversity, it's decent. Like many parts of California, the ethnic make-up is heavily skewed towards two groups. The larger employers like ESRI and Loma Linda Medical Center do help to bring in some diversity. I think you'll see more diversity in the middle income levels than in the lowest and highest income levels. Last edited by jschek; 06-23-2008 at 04:42 PM. Reason: Answer the original question |
