Public transit service to San Diego and LA (Los Angeles, Riverside: home, quality of life)

Hi all,

We are moving to Temecula and I have been a big supporter and user of public transit when possible. My question - is there public transit options to San Diego and LA from Temecula? I am mainly interested for weekend usage. I know there is the metrolink in oceanside, but is there weekend buses from Temecula?

Public transit might as well not exist in Temecula. There are a few bus routes, but the service isn't very frequent. There is not a weekend bus to San Diego or Los Angeles. Temecula is pretty far out from the center of these cities and is only served by Riverside Transit Authority which focuses on serving only the Inland Empire. You could maybe drive to Corona or Oceanside and then catch the Metrolink, Coaster, or Amtrak trains.

^^agreed. Driving to Oceanside and taking the coaster might be an option, but this is a very car-centric area overall. Even within San Diego, the public transportation options leave a lot to be desired. It's not like NY or DC or a big city where it's common for people to not even own a car....there's a lot of driving going on everywhere around here.

Thank you both for the info. I mainly had hope to take a bus or train to either city to get to the airport. I will be working from home mostly and had hope not to drive to the airport when I had to fly out, even if that meant an hour or two tranist ride. Oh-well the quality of life is worth it.

There are two proposed public transit options:
I-15 Bus Rapid Transit:

CA High Speed Rail:
California High-Speed Rail

Both of these will be several years off. In the meantime a car is your best bet for weekend travel. There are lots of vanpools in the city for weekday transit north and south.

I also work at home (this area is very, very good for those of us that work at home). When I go to the airport and don't want to drive, I use a local transit service: Transit Van Shuttle

It's about a 45-60 minute ride to San Diego and a 30 minute ride to Ontario.

If you are looking for transit like NY or CHI ...nothing exists like that in CA...
