I'm sure this has been asked a lot BUT....I will be moving (possibly) to SD from STL, MO in the future (after school) & I like to do my research in advance. I have a fiance & daughter. I am looking for safer areas in SD but also where it's not too far to go out to party @ bars & ect. I plan to go to law school as well so I doubt money will really be a big issue. Any suggestions?

La Jolla, Del Mar, or Mission Valley.

Mission Valley is a dump. I wouldn't recommend living there, ever. It's nothing but traffic snarled streets, interwoven between strip malls and big malls (Fashion Valley, Mission Valley).

If by this you mean that you are going to go to law school, and therefore, money will be no issue, I say -- don't count on it. It may be true, but there are lots of attorneys in California and many are struggling. Also, passing the California Bar exam is no gimme. Unless you get into and graduate from one of the top law schools, your chances of passing are at best 50/50.

There are two sides of Mission Valley: East and West. The malls pointed out are just a small portion of the area known as mission valley. In either case, I wouldn't say its a dump. But I guess it's all about perspective. Mission Valley has a lot of bars and residential homes are located close by and a great place to start off your life in San Diego. That being said, it's geared towards singles and young couples. You'll be hard pressed to find decent elementary and high schools in Mission Valley.

I currently live in East Mission Valley where there isn't much traffic, plenty of good family friendly neighbourhoods, but close to some decent night life (Dave & Busters, McGregor's Grill & Ale House, Chili's, Blue Agave Night Club ... just to name a few). Most of these places are actually walking distance from where I live.

I live on the edge of La Jolla/UTC. UTC is great for safe, and convenient shopping. And as jonkeeshond said, La Jolla is just beautiful. I work on the corner of prospect and girard. The center of all the high brow shops. And living so close to a major college has its advantages for a college student. Even if you aren't attending THAT college.

Swim with the Dolphins/Seals. I'm out there at 5am every morning and bodyboarding on the weekend. Good place to live, peaceful!!!!
