So right now, there is a police helicopter circling our area (for like 20 minutes now) and saying something out of the megaphone, but we can't make out what.

Last week, we couldn't get out of our street on one side, because there were 8 cop cars/motorcycles surrounding someone and the week before that, another 6 cop cars surrounding someone on El Cajon Blvd., near Montezuma (we are in the Rolando area).

What is going on in this area that they have such heavy police activity? It makes me not want to keep our screen doors open, ever, since apparently there is a reason for so many cops/helicopters to respond to things around here. Is there a site or somewhere we can find out why they are constantly here? The helicopter is still circling right now, but we cannot make out what they are trying to say.

I don't know about blocking off streets, but a police helicopter circling an area with cops saying something over a megaphone is usually an attempt to find a missing person who might not be able to care for themselves, like someone with Alzheimer's. I could be wrong in this case, of course, but that's what I've seen/heard in Central San Diego.

Call the police department and ask?

I know I can do that, but I'm sure they have better things to do than entertain me with answers. I was hoping there was a police blotter site or something where this stuff is posted, but I haven't had luck finding it. I just don't get the megaphone if no one can make out what they are trying to say.

Generally speaking, unless you are listening to the police scanner, you aren't going to find out.

99% of the stuff is just petty crimes. Since you are in a central area, they respond in force, since they are in the area anyway.
