Hi there,

I just moved to San Diego and I was wondering if there is any good newscomers club. I came across Newcomers of San Diego , but I couldn't find any membership info and it almost seems like an advertising company.

Any thoughts?

Thank You

What exactly are you looking for? If you just want to meet people, check out Meetup.com. You'll find a group that best fits your needs. Welcome to SD!

MAK802 is right, Meetup is where to go. Here's a link I found for people who just moved here and are looking for friends - "New To San Diego & Fun Friends Group" (San Diego, CA) - Meetup.com. Better yet, navigate through the site and find an interest, then do a search to find others looking for the same thing. Compared to other cities, San Diego has alot of groups to choose from. Plenty of dog meetups, but also for fans of Bon Jovi, yoga, partying...you name it.

Last year I met up with about 15 people for a hike up Cowles Mt. It was fun and there were no "creepy" people.

Cool. They have some cool events going on. I'll definitely check it out.

My husband and I recently moved to San Diego and were surprised to learn that there are very few Newcomer clubs in such a large city. The La Jolla clubs, we are told, won't take any new members and there is only one club in San Diego, and it is based on geographic location, and we, unfortunately, are just a few miles too far away. We moved here because our children and granchildren live here, from a community that that has a Newcomer club that welcomes people who want to join no matter where they live. We are really disappointed with the lack of opportunity to meet new people in San Diego that we have heard of thus far.

meetup, yelp, local web forums (this one, the UT, and various sports forums all have SD subforums), and don't forget to look at San Diego Reader in their things to do section as there are always several hundred interesting group activities listed many, if not most, are free. Also don't forget the old fashioned way of just going out side and just meeting people on your own. I've met tons of people at the beach, in parks, while hiking, while bowling, by joining sports teams, while picnicing, by playing on local adult sports leagues, by joining a drawing class, by joining a gardening class, and more stuff then I can think about.

If you sit and wait for people to come to you then you won't meet very many people but if you go out and make an effort then you'll meet a lot of people. It all kind of depends upon you.
