Every Saturday and or Sunday afternoon I hear the sounds of "La Cucaracha" playing down the hill from a bullhorn on the side of an ice cream van. My kids get all excited and run outside to see the van drive by even though we have never bought anything from it, something about that cartoonish music that gets the kids ears to perk up and gets them a wound up. It’s actually kind of fun for me since it reminds me of my childhood, so long as the guy doesn't stay parked out there for more than a few minutes.

I am curious, I think back to all the other neighborhoods in San Diego I have lived at in the past 10 years and can’t remember ever seeing or hearing an ice cream truck in those areas, other than the ice cream push cart guy that I would see from time to time at our North Park apartment. Does an ice cream man still come through your neighborhood or is this something from the past the lives on out here in the unincorporated neighborhoods only?

The push cart guy is around Mission Bay Park, also. And I've seen an ice cream van visiting the parking lots at Mission Bay Park.

The ice cream trucks still come around in City Heights, along with the push cart guys. Both of them come around here in TJ, too.

Push cart guy Mission Bay Park seen ~5 years ago. Truck come 'round in my hood more in summer once in awhile but no excitement as poor quality 'cream and kids trek to local yogurt place. In the 70s NJ, we had Hood and I recall the waning days of Good Humor with the freezer in the back and the guy in uniform had to get out to get your sticks. Trucks were a big deal in the 70s (and of course Mr. Softee in NYC). Now a days, kids and adults like the gourmet food trucks.

Heh heh. If it ain't McConnell's, my kids aren't interested. It's been a while, but trucks come around our neighborhood in SM sometimes.

We used to get nickel and dime ice cream bars in the 60's, what are they charging these days? I have one of those Yomanas appliances at home that uses frozen fruit.

An ice cream truck sometimes comes down our street. I don't know why (or at least why they return in a few days as we do not have a kid street. Most of the homes have no minors. Those who do have kids have adolescents. I have never seen anyone stop this truck when it goes by our homes.

We have 2 or 3 in Clairemont. They are not cheap but it's about the memories for the kids.

I'm an evil mom - I've told my 3yo that the ice cream truck plays music as a curtsy to let everyone know that they are out of ice cream

The push cart guy sells ice cream for $1.00, but I have no idea how much the truck sells it for.
