Team is not talented enough in really a Division that is completely up for grabs. The Pads are counting on too many guys that haven't had a solid track record (yet) or (ever) to get them to the playoffs and over the course of a 162 game season it will be too much for them to overcome.

Lots of guys playing over their heads especially the starting pitching.

If I was the front office I would let the year play out (no trades)- hopefully they are competitive enough to remain close into September. This is the kind of experience they can draw on for next season, while keeping all of the good farm talent they have.

They are already talking about limiting Cashner's innings- you can't compete for a Division title and do that and if you make the playoffs who pitches? Stults? Marquis?

Tom Garfinkel Resigned
Quote:
president and CEO Tom Garfinkel, who's been at the helm of the club since 2009, has resigned. Here's the full statement from the team:
Peter Seidler, lead investor of the San Diego Padres, and Ron Fowler, Executive Chairman, announced today that they have accepted the resignation of Tom Garfinkel as President and CEO of the team.

Both Fowler and Seidler expressed their appreciation for Tom's many contributions to the Padres over the last four years. Fowler will assume Garfinkel's responsibilities on an interim basis until a new President and CEO is hired.
Garfinkel previously served as vice-president and COO of the Diamondbacks before accompanying Jeff Moorad to San Diego.
Garfinkel, you'll recall, recently created a stir when he likened Dodgers pitcher Zack Greinke to the autistic character from the movie "Rain Man."
Ouch!

Wow, that was fast. They went from being 1.5 games out of first place to last place in no time!

Most relevant fan quote that I've read recently goes something like this (ala Dennis Green): "They are who we thought they were."
