I am getting excited but super nervous! Getting Married on Coronado 9/13/13, Honey moon til 22nd and then the move... Any tips? We are moving in with my cousin temporarily, until my fiance finds a salon, and I get a job. We have around 8k saved up, and wont have to pay rent living with him... The only thing im worried about is my dog. Australian Shepard/Lab mix, around 55-60 lbs. Finding a place that will allow him and not charge a ton is stressfull...

Any last minute tips, or advice for moving to San Diego?

Keep looking for a place that will allow your dog. Take pictures of him, and show copies of his shot records. I'm moving to a no pets complex, but he's allowing my cat because he stays inside. I showed him pictures and proof of his shots.

I also just requested an addendum to the lease, because it says no pets. I told the owner that I want it in writing and signed by him, because if I move in, and he changes his mind, I'll move right back out.

Keep looking and you'll find something.

Another tip would be to start driving around the areas you might want to live and look for 'For Rent' signs. You may have better luck finding an owner that wants a good tenant and be flexible but doesnt post on craigslist etc for whatever reason. A neighbor of mine is like this and owns a few properties. He had told me he just posts the rental sign and does it that way.

Going the craigslist route pits you up against professional landlords or property managers that may have very specific guidelines. It also is on the interwebs so you are competing with other potential tenants as well and room to negotiate a large animal might be more difficult to navigate than other potential tenants that dont.

Sometimes you can find better places by getting and walking around, than looking on Craigslist.

Oh thats a good idea!! Ive been finding 1 bedroom apartments for around 700-1000. Does that seem like the normal? I want to be close to downtown.

What do you call close to downtown? Normal Heights; North Park; South Park; University Heights and Golden Hill are all uptown, but not far from downtown.

Post the addresses of the apartments you find on here for comments on the areas. $700 is kind of low, and probably dumpy. My slumlord is getting $825 for the cottages that I live in now. As soon as there's a vacancy, they're rented without a problem, and the last three weren't even advertised on Craigslist or a sign out front. Word gets around that there no credit or background checks are required, and all you need here is to show proof of income to move in the same day.

Hey there! My girlfriend and I are in the same boat. Moving 10/1 and looking for a place. Most everything online looks like a motel-style or senior apartment complex. Coming from Chicago, we were hoping for something with a little bit of character. Thinking of topping out at $1200/mo. and we have cats. Any leads would be appreciated and good luck in your search.

How many cats do you have? If you have more than two, you'll have a problem.
