Where to buy inexpensive acreage? (San Diego, Escondido: for sale, real estate, how much)

I'm not familiar with the San Diego area, but is there any place within about 30 minutes where you can buy 5-10 acres for less than 250k? If not, how much farther do you have to go outside of the city? And how about Mexico...is there cheap land there? Thanks

Only Mexican citizens can purchase mexican land or property.

Inexpensive acreage will put you in the desert, where the water situation will determine whether or not the land is habitable or not.

Thanks for the responses. My intention would be to build on the land. I'm currently living in Maryland, and while going to college in North Carolina I was shocked by the cheap prices of land down there. I know it would be nowhere near as inexpensive as NC land is, but figured I'd get an idea of prices. Does anyone on this forum have any experience with tax deed sales in California?

5-10 acres for less than 250k, without any buildings or with a teardown, can be had in Valley Center, Ramona, Jamul, maybe in Escondido. Jamul and Escondido are 30-45 min. from downtown San Diego. Valley Center and Ramona are closer to 1 hr. one way.

The biggest difference between NC and San Diego is that stuff does not grow naturally in San Diego, due to the lack of water. You'll get 5-10 acres of rocks, sagebrush and tumbleweeds. Any non-desert-like landscaping needs to be irrigated by hand. Whereas NC is fairly wet year-round.

I agree, although you should check out those areas..because living in Valley Center for example is nothing like San Diego. It's way to hot in my opinion and over an hour from the beach! Forget it!! Just saying before you buy a big chunk of land realize that you won't be close to San Diego.
