Does anyone have any advice on where I'd be able to find a hotel in the city for around 500-600 for a week long stay in mid July?

Check airbnb.com I just saw a price for $48/night for a private room within someone's residence. To rent an entire home, the cheapest I saw was $99/night.

I've been looking into the residential hotels such as studio 819. Would you recommend those or are there better options

You don't want to stay in a residential hotel. There are much better options than those.

It seems kind of tough to find something in my price range, residential hotels were the only ones that seemed to fit my budget. I would even be willing to do a month to month lease. Any suggestions?

You can find something, just keep looking. If you stay in an SRO, you'll be sorry. Just don't plan to find a place to stay within your budget the week of July 20 - 27. That's Comic Con week.

Your best bet is to look at Airbnb or VRBO San Diego for the dates you want. You will get much more for your money than staying in a hotel.

I have used both Airbnb and VRBO to stay all over the US and have found great deals on wonderful places. If you have the entire house then you can also eat some meals in rather than eating out which also saves money.

If I were to stay in la Mesa for the week while I look for an apartment in Hillcrest or little Italy is that a reasonable drive ?
