Hello everyone,
We are moving to San Diego from Texas. We are just wondering if you have any recommendations for moving company to move interstate? This will be our first interstate move, so we don't have any idea about interstate movers. We are planning to pack our own boxes and small items except some big furniture. We are looking for following services:

-> Load
-> Unload
-> Move

No car shipment is required as we are planning to drive all the way. We don't have many furniture and we are also planning to sell some big stuffs before our move. What would be the price range we should expect? Hows Atlas World Group? Anything else we should be aware of and should consider?

Any information and suggestion would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You should make sure whatever company you use is licensed to operate in CA. I have read that some companies do not qualify for the emissions/air pollution rule. This could result in whatever company you use handing off your items to another company along the way.

I would prefer that this doesn't happen due to the possibility of losing boxes.

I need to hire a moving company soon as well...good luck with your move.

Use a PODS service.

Error.

They deliver the container, you pack it, they pick it up, they store it until you call and give them an address to deliver it to. There are other companies besides PODS, though.

We used Allied in our move from Houston to San Diego. We bought our own boxes and packing materials on line and packed our own. After many years of interstate moves with " The Company", this last move, after retirement, was all on our nickel. Check dates, as after May, rates go up considerably. Over the years, we've used many different movers.....some more than 2 or 3 times. The move ends beings only as good as the crew. One move with one company, was the best and easiest ever, while another, same company, was the move from Hell.

We just moved from Minnesota using U-Pack, the ABF equivalent of PODS. We had a very positive experience, good customer service and they really shepherd you through the process. We used one of their relocubes - looks tiny, but it was big enough for our two-bedroom apartment, with bed, dining table (disassembled), entertainment center, and bedside stand. We paid about $1,650 total to have them drop it off, pick it up, and ship it (we unloaded from their distribution center in SD). But they also have movers if you don't want to do the loading/unloading yourself.

They sound like movers to me. Why would this be any different ?

Because everything is contained in a POD. No boxes...unless you want boxes, but they take up more room. You can have the POD delivered to your driveway to store...or have them store it and deliver it when needed.
We looked inio it great concept, but not feasible for a full house load. Not for us anyway.

If moving for a new job, I'd recommend contacting your new HR Department for recommendations. Often businesses have contracts signed with moving companies that save you massive $$$ over the rack rates. Would be worth asking even if you don't have a relocation package as part of your offer.
