I would look at eastlake, but finding an apartment/condo with a garage may run a minimum of $1600+ in San Diego in general. Anything less will be in an undisirable area.

Update: Forget the garage, for now the car will stay stored in Chicago. So any good recommendations on a apartment, 1b/1ba, laundry in unit, safe area, close to Plaza Bonita mall? Any info is much appreciated, thanks!

I was just out there today for the first time. I just checked Craigslist, and didn't see anything in your price range. You might want to expand your areas to Chula Vista and National City, plus forget about the washer and dryer in the unit.

Hey thanks for the advice what did you think about the area? Yes I can definitely expand my search to those areas. Also, I understand what you mean, I just prefer to wash my dirty clothes in private haha.

I only went to Target, but the area around it looked pretty nice.

I live in Bonita. There are several complexes on Bonita Rd that look nice. Next time I drive down the road I will get you some names and if possible some numbers. I think you might be able to find something close by, either Bonita or National City. If not those two maybe Chula Vista or a little further south around Palm avenue and 805. I'll get back to you with some suggestions.

Some people mention undesirable neighborhoods....here is my take on that. National City and Chula Vista are fine, it is definitely not high class but you can find something safe there and close to your budget. As far as crime, you will have to lock your car and house door and be vigilant, but if you mind your own business you will be fine.
