I love San Diego but I don't get to live there. I do have a month off this summer and I want to spend it near the beach. So, how do I go about finding a good one bedroom apartment or condo? I want to be close by the beach preferably with an ocean view. I am willing to compromise ocean view as long as it is walkable to the beach. I would also like to be close to restaurants.

I am a bit overwhelmed as to where to start looking. There are so many options. I have explored craigslist. My budget is $1500 per month max. for renting. Is this doable? I can go a little higher than $1500 but not by much. I am a single guy. I don't need a big fancy home just a decent furnished one bedroom with a kitchen.

Any thoughts? Any neighborhoods I should explore in particular? Which month during summer is the busiest/most expensive? thanks.

vrbo.com (vacation rental by owner) is a great site for finding rentals. We came out here a few times before moving here and used this site to find our places.

What kind of beach experience do you want? There is an area for all desires.

Thank you. I will explore that. I just saw an ad in craigslist that claimed there some scams there. so, I am cautious taking the craigs list route. I was at the pacific beach by Mission blvd last summer. I loved it. There were restaurants all around the board walk and there were chairs where I could sit and look down at the ocean for hours at night. I loved watching the surfers. I don't know what the other beaches in San Diego are like but I liked the beach scene by Mission Blvd.

That's the same area we liked to stay in. We rented near Ormond Street, which is the middle of the Mission Beach/Pacific Beach strand, so it was a lot calmer, yet a nice walk in either direction to action if we wanted it.

I definitely wouldn't hesitate to use VRBO.

Thanks. Finding a good condo is much harder than I thought.

I am a light sleeper and love to sleep in. I hate being woken up in the morning. But I would love to have ocean view from my room. I have been hearing the condos near the ocean tend to be more noisy. Is this true? In addition these are super expensive. They are like $5000 for a studio/one bedroom.

May be I should just give up ocean view and stay a bit far away but still walkable to the beach? Any ideas? I am so torn between all the options.

I doubt you'll be able to find a vacation rental anywhere near the beach with your budget. Maybe a bus ride from the beach? San Diego Metropolitan Transit System
