Hi!
I am currently renting in Sabre Springs and am considering moving into a complex of new homes under construction off the 8 at Aurora Rd/Las Coches being built by KB homes. I moved to SD from OC 9 years ago, and previously owned a home in Poway but had to sell in the downturn, so I am not a SD newbie but don't have much knowledge of that area around the 67 and 8.

I have done a few drive byes, and it looks like decent single family homes around there, with several mobile home parks as well. My kids are grown so school info isnt a big deal, but if anyone can chime in with some local knowledge that would be awesome.

TIA

The 67 was shut down (both ways) because of brush fires recently. Be prepared for that too. Fire season is upon us.

I live in Winter Gardens (Lakeside) and drive by here on the way to Walmart Super Center and Vons (now Haggen) frequently. The specific area where these new homes are off of the 8 business road has a dusty feeling to it, a few mobile home parks and other industrial places. I suppose the community will be nice once it is completed and in turn improve the immediate area a bit, also it is near (but not right on) the freeway so that is a plus.

The broader area is a big mix of modest mobile home parks, apartments, townhomes to the big homes up on the hill behind your new potential development to the new gigantic custom homes of Blossom Valley and RV parks a bit East.

The 92040 zip code varies greatly from place to place.

Regarding the comment above, there have been 2 brush fires nearby in the last two or so years, one in the open area behind the new development and one across the freeway on a hillside above the Wal-Mart.

thanks for the info malcorub!! I think it looked like a pretty decent place as I drove around. I am going to check it out at various times of the day to see the vibe. I just want to make sure crime is not a big problem and the area is nice before I commit to buying a new house! The area crime reports don't look too bad.

It's safe, drive around the main roads like Los Coches, Lakeview, Lake Jennings and 8 Business (which is Main St in the El Cajon City limits) but also driving around the neighborhood streets the El Cajon side and the Lakeside side away from the main streets will you a good feel for the area.

Good luck and feel free to PM me.

I'd live in that area no problem. When we stay at lake Jennings I ride all through there. It does get kinda real sketchy to the South of the 8 over there. I've never seen so many homeless that are inland. I wonder what the draw is, it gets pretty hot out there.

I was just at the drive-in in Santee on Sunday with my son and nephews to watch Jarassic World, good family time for $9 dlls per adult.

Other fun places in the area are the parks, lakes and casinos.
  • Lindo Lake Park
  • Lake Jennings
  • El Capitan Reservoir
  • El Monte County Park
  • Stelzer County Park
  • Flin Springs County Park
  • Sycuan Casino
  • Barona Casino
