I'm curious to see how this works out, also. It does make sense with more people using Uber and Lyft these days.

Agreed. They close the 6th in Austin and Beale Street in Memphis on weekends. Not sure why they can't do the same on 5th.

I'd actually visit there if that happened. Right now that area is a stressful mess with so many people/cars.

On baseball weekends you really can't effectively walk in the on the sidewalks of 5th Ave and a couple of other streets it is so crowded. Feels almost like a mild Mardi Gras.

It is the sign of an increasingly happening city when the thought of driving down into it and parking is considered as a very bad option. We wouldn't ever consider it; transit, walk or ride share Uber/Lyft for $5-7 is the only way to go. I would love it if they closed 5th (and a couple of other areas) to cars a few times a year.
