It's now in effect. Ralph's hadn't sent theirs out for recycling yet, so I grabbed a few bunches of them to add to my stash that I already have.

I use them for used cat litter, and for kitchen trash, so when I run out (which will be a while), I'll have to buy some.

Haven't shopped outside Costco lately, but I hear Ralphs and Walmart started charging now. What's the deal as stores start implementing this, do you have to guess in advance how many paper bags you need like in Europe?

I have no use for paper bags, they get thrown in the trash, because they're not useful for anything. I hear it's around $.10 per bag.

I have reusable grocery bags, so it's not a problem for me. But I go through quite a few grocery bags every week, between used cat litter, so I like to stock up on them. Target got rid of them already, and wants $.10 per bag.

I went through the self checkout at Ralphs and the machine asked how many bags I needed and I put none (even though I used two) and wasnt charged a dime. Seems like there is a way around getting charged. I too use these plastic bags for small trash as its just me and my yorkie.

I went to Wal-Mart today, not that I shop there often and they had no disposable bags either, all the bag racks were empty. They only gave you the option to buy the reusable bags.

My Wife went to Target, same thing they charge 10 cents for the heavier duty plastic bags with the Bullseye (same as the ones Target in Encinitas uses) on it or $1 each for the reusable. Target will give you 5 cents credit for each bag when you return and re-use them either the plastic or reusable (woven) bags.

Heard on the news that Von's is charging 15 cents for plastic bags and 10 cents for paper.

I have enough for a while, but I heard people were buying boxes of 1000 at Smart and Final. There was an earlier thread on this subject, but I couldn't find it.

I think CNYC said that if it passed, he would go to Tijuana and buy plastic bags at Waldos.

The amount of dog poo left on people's lawns is going to start increasing now...

Correct. That's because those people aren't going to buy scented dog poop bags to pick it up with.

Mmm hmm. I'm stockpiling what I can get.

Is Target doing away with their bags? If they are, I'll just have my parents mail out some of theirs as packing material when they're sending out the kids' Christmas presents.

I was in Target tonight, and they've already done away with their bags.
