As I said in a previous post, we recently returned from Oceanside and my family is already asking when we can go back! I thought about Christmas time, but I wonder about weather conditions. According to charts and graphs, December's weather and ocean temp's are very close to May's. How accurate would you say that is? Other then surfers, are people in the ocean? Thanks again for information!

Very true.San Diego(the coast mainly) lacks seasons. It's almost the same year round. In 2004 I wore basketball shorts on Christmas day, kind of lame.

December is rather summery... the one month that I despise being in San Diego.

The weather varies more in winter so it could be hit or miss. During the day the temps will be fairly similar to May, most likely low to mid 60's, maybe upper 60's. BUT during winter we get Santa Ana winds or an offshore flow fairly often so it could be in the 70's or even 80's, but more than likely in the 60's. Nights will be much colder than spring, usually mid to upper 40's. Since that is our "rainy" season it could rain while you're here, but most storms don't last for more than a day or two and it really never rains that hard. And winter is one of the sunniest seasons technically b/c we don't get much in the way of the marine layer or fog. Usually that time of year only surfers are in the water.

Ya, I'd say May and December are fairly similar. The weather we are having right now certainly reminds me of December. They will be fine.

The last few years it has been cold (low 60's, high 50's) in early December only to have it in the upper 70's around the holidays. Many times we have been at the pool on Christmas day. Our relatives tend to get jealous.

Not much different, but the water will be colder. Not to many will be in the water without a wetsuit. Everyone will be in the hot tub though, as there are some beautiful evenings in December
