The Chicken Pie Shop on El Cajon Blvd. used to make their own fruit & cream pies, in addition to the chicken pies...probably still do.

Coco's Restaurants made pretty good pies...only place my husband could find boysenberry, his favorite, other than Knott's in OC. There is a Coco's in Vista, there might be one in San Diego.

So, try it yourself and report back your findings, or at least try to make a positive contribution. That would be a refreshing change.

I had a blueberry pie from Chicken Pie Shop a few weeks ago. It was delicious! I bought it as an afterthought just to have some dessert on the table for guests. I haven't stopped thinking about it since. Definitely tasted like it was made with fresh blueberries, not some canned goo.

People rave about the new Pop Pie place in University Heights. I haven't been there yet myself.
