In what area of San Diego will you be working?

He said in the first post he'll be telecommuting from home, so no commute.

Thank you! I'm curious what you guys think of Oceanside. I visited there once and thought it was nice, but then heard there are gangs and higher crime.
This is true, but Oceanside is a big spread out area, so there are also safe and nicer areas too. A site like crimemapping.com will allow you to put in an address or city and get a recent crime report for different areas. I suggest doing it for the place where you currently live first so you have something for comparison. Oh, and also set the time setting to six months; otherwise you'll only get a week's worth of data.

Or even Ocean Beach that has a dog beach?
There's a bit of a homeless and drug issue in parts of Ocean Beach (especially by the pier), but again, there are nicer areas there too. Use crimemapping.com to scope it out.

To be honest, OB is NOT my favorite beach for dogs in San Diego. For some reason, the dogs there seem rowdier and less well supervised by their humans than at other dog beaches and parks.

I much prefer Fiesta Island, but your mileage may vary.

You might also want to look in the Point Loma area, which is right next door to OB, but (just my opinion) a little more upscale. You do have to be aware of the flight path noise in some areas there though.

Have you been to Blacks Beach near Torrey Pines yet??

My Ex had a gay sibling, and he liked Blacks Beach a lot.

I would stay away from Ocean Beach. Unless you are a gay hippie.

Hillcrest or portions of North Park are the best locations if you want to stay inside the LGBT Community.

If you do not care about that, then parts of Ocean Beach are ok but the parking is terrible there, so see if you can get a parking space with your rental. There is a dog beach in Coronado also. Coronado is nice, but tons of cops and tourists. It also has Fighter Jet Flight Paths, so be sure that is a non issue.

If you are working from home, at least get month to month on the housing in case you want to relocate.
