People are always jumping off that pier, I even saved one who got knocked unconscious and was foaming out of the mouth when I got him on my board. Lifeguards we’re unable to resuscitate on the scene, but apparenty did on the way or at the hospital. I went to check on him but all they would tell me he was alive, but not if he was a vegetable or not. I think about him everytime I see someone jump, or a read a story like this, as I’ll never get that image out of my mind.

That search is still underway - - I was biking on the boardwalk today and there was a helicopter searching the surf. Yesterday there was one when I left for work at 7:30 am and one when I came back from work.

How long are they going to do that?

I guess they'll probably search for a few more days. I'm sure the family would like to find his body. I know I would. Apparently he was hanging off some type of rope at the edge of the pier when he fell.

A few weeks ago, the OB Rag did related article about deaths and injuries along Sunset Cliffs and the OB Pier. They found an average of 5 people have died or been seriously injured in OB waters every year since 2005 but they admitted that their numbers are probably on the low side as not all cases are reported to the media. True, but at least his loved ones will know that everything possible was done to try to find him.

That's crazy as this time of year there are a lot of six/seven gill sharks. Hopefully closure for the family.
