I have a question about pacing as a form of catching someone’s speed. I stayed behind the officer the whole time but inadvertently “caught up to him”, although I was significantly behind him. My speed wavered between 70 and 85. However, I was going 70 for some time when he slowed down, switched lanes, and whipped behind me to pull me over IMMEDIATELY. Did this officer accurately pace me?

You can argue that in court, then write a check.

And remember in the future:

Never pass a cop on the roadways. And get a V-1 laser detector so you know if they are using radar/laser or not

Yes, he was traveling at the speed limit, or maybe even above it and he saw you catching up to him. That is evidence that you were speeding. It seems pretty accurate to me.

Speeding is fine, but you can't be overtaking cops while doing it. If I see a cop car in front of me, I slow down, and if he changes lanes, then I change lanes too and stay behind him. That has probably saved me more then a few tickets. Cops in the US really aren't trained to pull over cars behind them. They don't what to pull you over until they first have had a chance run your plate number. That is hard for them to do if you are behind them. So as long as you stay in back of them, you are safe.

So you just said you were going 70-85? Sounds like the cop got it right.

Sounds like another unskilled driver who cannot drive above the speed limit with shaking in his boots.
