I’m relocating to San Diego in a few months. I’m single and have some strong leads and can transfer my job in mental health. My budget is $1300-$1600 for rent. I’m looking for a 1 bedroom any ideas on the good areas

San Diego is huge. It would be important to know where you may be working and base your housing off of that.

Rents are very high here, a one bedroom in a desirable area will go around $2k or more. And, yes, you will want to live as close to your workplace as possible because commutes can be bad.

For that budget? Have you looked on Craigslist? Have you looked around where you'll be working?

$1600 a month will get you a dump an hour from work. Unless you're getting a significant bump, like doubling your pay, don't come... you're going to be miserable in the nice weather.

Leads are one thing but every place I've rented from, have lease requirements asking for proof of income 3x the rent and request current pay stubs so make sure you have a definite job offer in place first.

Like others mentioned, location is important. Where is the job located and if you don't have a job lined up, you won't know what area to focus your apartment search. Although, your budget is very low, even for a 1-bedroom.

Also, there is no rent control here so plan for yearly increases ... mine goes up between $150-$200 every year. Maybe consider roommate options.
