We are originally from California. We came to Michigan to work Automotive when laid off from General Dynamics in 1992. Now we are looking at having my wife and 17 year old daughter move back. Wife has arthritis. San Diego still has her family so want to be there long term. I still plan to work in Michigan, unless I am laid off. How would we proceed for handling 2 residences in 2 states? Would we be able to establish San Diego as our legal residence even though primary income is in Michigan? I would be visiting my family up to 4 weeks a year plus Christmas. Need some good advice on this. Tax implications etc.
Also, any need an experience Mechanical Engineer out there? I interviewed with Guidant (now part of Abbott) over a year ago, but did not get the position. Very interested in the medical devices area. I am working hard on my own healthy living and like the idea of helping others to a better quality of life.

That would be so hard on the family. Its doable, but I wouldn't recommend it for your sanity and family's sake.

We are originally from California. We came to Michigan to work Automotive when laid off from General Dynamics in 1992. Now we are looking at having my wife and 17 year old daughter move back. Wife has arthritis. San Diego still has her family so want to be there long term. I still plan to work in Michigan, unless I am laid off. How would we proceed for handling 2 residences in 2 states? Would we be able to establish San Diego as our legal residence even though primary income is in Michigan? I would be visiting my family up to 4 weeks a year plus Christmas. Need some good advice on this. Tax implications etc.
