My friend and I are heading out to San Diego mid-August from Philly. We are currently on a search for both jobs a place to live; I am an elementary/special ed teacher, and she is in the fitness industry. We would like to be as close to the beach as possible without paying more than $1500/mo for two bedrooms, and also would like to be near bars/nightlife (without being in the dead center of it!) We've had suggestions of Pacific Beach and Hillcrest so far. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!! We will be out in CA the end of June to secure a place to live and (hopefully!!) jobs.
Thanks!!!!!!!!

Try Little Italy in the Downtown area.

I would say for $1500 a month PB is a good place to look, but man that is totally in the "thick of" the nighlife and the parking is BAD in ways I cannot express.

You may want to look at Mission Valley/Fashion Valley you are almost guaranteed spaces for your cars, close to downtown and beaches and the only thing you are in the thick of is the crappy traffic going to IKEA

hope this helps

I hope that you ladies don't mind me hijacking your thread slightly, but since I'm also 25 and moving to SD, I thought I'd join in the current discussion rather than start anew.

I've looked around Pacific Beach a little, but the parking is most definitely an issue, as I have a work truck and my personal car.

Does Ocean Beach still have problems with airplane noise? Or do they now route the flights away from OB?

Yes, the plane noise is still there. As long as Linbergh Field is there, the noise will be there. It's much less of a problem if you can go South of Newport Ave towards the Sunset Cliffs neighborhoods.

I would recommend Golden Hill(one mile away from the Gaslamp district-bars/nightlife)
Southcrest-3 miles from the Gaslamp
