^I guess chucking a fish at NorCal dude so that it *SLAPS* across his forehead would be a lot more fun than tossing a boring old cookie at him.

Hispanic or Latino of any race:

2010 - 99,068 (25.4%)

Not a whole lot surprising here: rising asian and latino populations, and dropping black and white populations. One surprise though is that Oakland was the only big city in the Bay area to add non-hispanic white people (which is against the overall trend in the Bay Area in fact). I know many people would have predicted SF to be the only city in the Bay (or all of CA even) to add non-hispanic white people, and to lose Hispanic people in this census, but that turned to not be the case at all.

Indeed that is very interesting. Its a trend that first began to manifest itself in 2005 when articles starting popping up about how Whites are growing in Oakland while Blacks are shrinking.

I don't understand the hostility. I thought you guys hated how much transplants were coming and changing things and I thought you guys hated growth (especially if its low income in pleasanton). I figured you all would be happy about the decline of population in Oakland and the Bay area's near stagnant growth. LoL go figure. Oh and Rah I am at the Westfield as I type, so if you want to come by and get me some Mrs. Fields cookies and some skim milk that would be great (since you are offering). Thanks.

Any who the population shift is going to make for an interesting political redistrict show.

I wonder if they(bay) will try to consolidate the bay with the valley or if the bay is going to just loose influence with valley gaining more prominence.

Yes I agree. Especially now that redistricting has been taken away from the Legislature.

Well, there is a very strong chance that San Joaquin County will combine with the Bay Area when the changes are announced, but you never know.

As far as valley growth, one result of so many Coastalites moving Inland is that the Inland has swung a little to the left...

Sacramento and Stockton are not politically in line with Bakersfield(with is a bit more red overall). Sure Placer and El Dorado are pretty conservative, but Sac and Yolo and lean blue these days.

California is not becoming more conservative, even though inland counties grew faster than the coast. This last election demonstrated that.

We're just messin with ya man LOL

Anyway, the valley growing in population will not take anyting away from the bay. The Bay Area will always be what it is and will always offer what the valley cannot. The valley will always be largely farm country; gotta grow the food somewhere and agriculture is a huge industry worth billions of dollars in California and the vast majority of that is in the Central Valley.

The Bay Area is the high tech hub (Silicon Valley) and a business center (SF and Oakland). They Bay area and the Central Valley is just too different.

Either Californians are having less children or the US Census skipped a lot of people to fill out the forms.
