Now your putting words in my mouth - I said nothing about resentment or fear. (fear - of a mother's group LOL)

I hate to see double standards or hypocrisy in any walk of life.

I said females protest when they are excluded from men's clubs but then setup their own institutions with exactly the same policy - say what you want, but in the world I live in, that is called hypocrisy.

After looking up the definition of "hegemony" I must say, well put!

To Montclair: I know some gay parents in Oakland, feel free to PM me if you want me to find out more about gay parent groups around here. My friends (lesbians) adopted an adorable little boy from the foster system and it's been a pretty amazing experience for them.

As for mothers not letting men into their groups, my guess is that it's because sensitive issues related to the female experience of birth and parenting are discussed, and having a man privy to these conversations would make participants feel uncomfortable. It's not a very comparable analogy to the reasons that men excluded women from their clubs, though they do still have a "divorce - for men only" club that to my knowledge women are not clamoring to join. Maybe if they changed the name of the group to "People who've pushed a large object out of their uterus that subsequently suckles at their breast" men would be less inclined to join
