I'm looking into a job through the tunnel and wonder how the commute will be. I live close to the tunnel on the Oakland side but I'm worried about coming home. Google maps say 23 minutes in no traffic, how long will it take in traffic? Still 2 years until the 4th bore opens! Thanks for your help.

There is some backup during the morning commute, but once you're through the tunnel, it's a breeze going against the main rush hour. Why not take BART? It doesn't get easier than that.

I'd give it about 30 min instead of 23. The slowdown may add 7 minutes. There's also a sign indicating the drive times as you approach the tunnel. Take a look in the morning and check it out!

You can look on 511.org for a map showing how bad traffic is.

Thanks. I'm especially worried about the westbound backup in the afternoon.

From what I've seen, the westbound backup is actually worst earlier in the afternoon, like 2-3 pm, and not as bad later. I have no idea why, but it is pretty consistent.
