As being a computer Software guy, should I go to SanFrancisco, San Jose, LA, or San Diego? If just considering job opportunities...

I'd imagine SF or San Jose. My goodness, the predatory look in people's eyes when they learn I know Java. Sheesh. I'm not looking for a job, people!

This is exciting to hear. My partner is a java engineer and we're hoping to find jobs and relocate to the area in the next few months. IF you have any suggestions for leads or recruiters you've had luck with, please pm me. Thanks!

If you are good, you can apply to any of the hundreds of engineering jobs, and you will get noticed. Pretty simple but be prepared to demonstrate a strong portfolio. I would not move out here without anything lined up. If you can land a quality job in any of those cities, I dont see how you can go wrong.

Forget L.A. and San Diego.

Anywhere on the Peninsula from San Francisco to San Jose puts you within commuting distance of most of the Bay Area IT jobs. Many of the IT people I know end up working in different towns in this area, so don't consider it a "San Jose -or- San Francisco" thing. Instead approach it as a "Bay Area" thing and choose your living situation or commute strategy appropriately.

5 years ago you'd mainly be looking at the San Jose/Palo Alto area, though you could certainly find work in the IT department of any bank or law firm in SF. Now there's a lot of new tech firms in SF cropping up. Seems like Silicon Valley IT firms do a wide variety of stuff, from manufacturing to hardware to software. SF seems like mostly website stuff--Zynga, Twitter, etc.
